From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

A late penalty kick save by freshman goalkeeper Calvin Boyle (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) helped the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeat New York University, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field. 

The win was the first University Athletic Association victory for the Spartans this season as the team improves to 7-4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. NYU falls to 10-2 (1-1 UAA) in its first loss to CWRU since 2008.

The lone score of the match came at the 53:14 mark by junior forward Matthew Zembas (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley N.W.). Off of his initial shot from the right side, Zembas found the loose ball in the box and drove a shot past Violet goalkeeper Lucas Doucette for his fourth goal this season and 10th career.

Of the Spartans' 21 goals this season, 17 have been scored in the second half.

The Violets nearly tied the match in the waning moments of regulation after an NYU player was fouled inside the box. With 2:13 on the clock, Petter Aasa drove a penalty kick towards the right post. However, Boyle made a clutch diving stop to preserve the victory.

In addition to his late-game heroics, Boyle made three saves en route to his sixth victory of the season. Doucette made four saves for New York.

CWRU outshot NYU, 14-8, and each squad attempted four corner kicks.
