Seventh-Ranked Eagles Earn Road Win against Regionally-Ranked BSC

From Emory University Athletics

The Emory University Men's Soccer Team, ranked seventh in Division III, scored a pair of late goals to remain undefeated with a 2-0 win at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama on Wednesday night.

Emory has now won eight-straight games to move to 8-0-1 overall on the season, while the Panthers, ranked fourth in the South Atlantic Region, suffered their first setback of the 2014 campaign, dropping to 5-1-1.

Despite applying the pressure early, the Eagles ended the first half in a scoreless deadlock with the Panthers.  Emory held advantages both in shots (10-5) and shots on goal (3-2) over Birmingham-Southern after the first 45 minutes.

The game remained scoreless until the 76th minute, when Sebastian Hardington struck for what would prove to be the game-deciding score, coming off an assist from sophomore Jason Andrejchak.  It was the third goal of the season for Hardington, each of which has been a game winner, while Andrejchak earned his team-leading sixth assist of the season on the play.

Andrejchak leads all Eagles this season with 14 points.

In the 81st minute, Emory took advantage of a pair of yellow cards issued to Birmingham-Southern players, resulting in a penalty kick for senior Dylan Price.  Price would convert on the opportunity for his third goal of the season, pushing the Eagles' lead to 2-0.

Emory finished the game with a 14-10 advantage in total shots, and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Eagles' defense picked up its third-straight shutout and its fifth shutout overall this season.  JuniorAbe Hannigan made four saves in his 90 minutes in goal, claiming his fourth individual shutout of the season and lowering his goals-against average to 0.60 for the year.
