From Emory University Athletics
Emory University's offense churned out a season-high five
goals, as the 13th-ranked Eagles extended
their winning streak to five games with a 5-1 win over Rhodes
College at the Warrior Classic in Hendrix, Arkansas on
Saturday.
Sophomore forward Jason Andrejchak led
Emory with a goal and two assists on the day, including the
game-winning strike. The four-points scored were a career-high for
Andrejchak, who has now registered at least one point in each of
the last five games. He leads all Emory scorers this season with
three goals (all game-winning scores), five assists and 11 points
in 2014
Emory, which registered its highest scoring output in a game
since last year's season-opening 6-2 win over Marian College
(Wis.), remained undefeated on the season with a 5-0-1
record. It was the team's largest goal total in a game away
from home since a 5-0 win at Birmingham-Southern College on
September 20th, 2012. Rhodes dropped
to 1-2-1 with the loss.
It did not take long for the Eagles to get on the board in
Saturday's game, as Andrejchak scored on the team's first shot of
the day in the 11th minute of
action. It was his team-leading third goal of the
campaign.
Emory added onto its lead in the
27th minute, when
junior Sebastian Hardington scored his
second goal of the season, each of which has been in the last two
games. Andrejchak was once again in the middle of the scoring
action, collecting his own rebound after a shot, and passing to
Hardington for the successful scoring opportunity.
Rhodes cut the Eagles' lead in half in the
35th minute, when Jason Crutcher
scored on a free kick from 25 yards out. However, Emory
carried the goal advantage into halftime, outshooting the Lynx
13-6, with a 7-4 edge in shots on goal during the first 45 minutes
of play.
Emory added onto its lead with a key insurance goal from
junior Nick Schook in the
55th minute, as the midfielder scored
his first goal of the season off an assist from Andrejchak. Junior
co-captain Matt Sherr scored unassisted goal
in the 71st minute to increase the
lead to 4-1, and sophomore Eli Curtinnotched the
first goal of his collegiate career off an assist from
sophomore Scott Haley in the
78thminute to cap off the Eagles'
scoring.
The Eagles' attacked registered season-highs with 26 shots
and 16 shots on goal, while limiting the Lynx to 10 shots, five of
which were on frame.
Emory junior goalkeeper Abe
Hannigan matched his season-high with four saves in the
game, on the way to earning his fifth win of the campaign. Hannigan
played the first 78 minutes and 52 seconds, before being lifted
from the game with a four-goal lead, ending a streak of 2,134
minutes and 24 consecutive seconds in goal, dating back to last
year's season opener. Sophomore Alexander
Herbets came in for Hannigan, holding the Lynx scoreless
over the final 11 minutes of play.
