From Emory University Athletics
Emory University senior Dylan Price broke
a scoreless tie in the 82nd minute on Friday night
to give the 24th-ranked Eagles a 1-0 'Senior Day' win
over the University of Rochester at the Woodruff Physical Education
Center.
The victory put an end to a three-game losing streak for the
Eagles, who improved to 12-3-1 overall and to 2-3-0 in University
Athletic Association (UAA) matches. Rochester dropped to
7-5-3 overall, including a 1-3-1 UAA mark.
Price struck for his fifth goal of the season and second game
winning goal of the campaign with just eight minutes and 54 seconds
left in regulation. After a shot from sophomore Scott
Haley was blocked by the Rochester defense inside the 18-yard
box, it deflected directly towards Price, who collected it and sent
it past the Yellowjackets' keeper for the game-deciding score.
The goal was the 34th of Price's Emory career,
tying him for ninth-place in school history with former Eagle Jeff
Solem (1967-68). It was also his 13th career
game-winning goal, tying him with Matthew Levine (2000-03) for the
second-most in the program's record book.
The Eagles were able to deal with a tough Rochester attack
throughout the evening, withstanding a 16-shot attack from the
Yellowjackets. Junior goalkeeper Abe
Hannigan turned away both shots on goal he faced, improving to
11-3-1 on the season and picking up his sixth individual shutout of
the season. Emory's defense registered its seventh team
shutout of the campaign, the most by the team since the 2011
campaign.
Emory's offense took nine shots in the game, a pair of which were
on goal. Haley led all Eagles with three shots in the
contest, and picked up second assist of the season on the Price
goal.
Prior to the game, the Eagles honored the four members of their
senior class – midfielder Jeffrey Cochran,
defender Carl Credle, Price and defender Noah
Rosen – with a special 'Senior Day' ceremony.
Together, the class has a four-year record of 44-23-5, including a
round of 32 finish at the NCAA Championships and a UAA Championship
in 2012
