The New York University men's soccer team defeated St. John
Fisher College 2-1 on Saturday night, September 13, at Gaelic Park
in Riverdale, NY.
The Violets (5-0) and the Cardinals (1-5-1) headed into the half
knotted in a scoreless tie. Things wouldn't stay that way for long
though, as NYU came out of the locker room and scored two quick
goals.
The scores came within a six-minute period, each of the foot of
Violet rookies. Despite a St. John Fisher goal late in the second
half, NYU held on for its fifth win of the season.
"We've scored quick goals in the second half already this season,
specifically against CSI, so it was good to see the forwards get on
the score sheet again," NYU Head Coach Joe
Behan said.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nicolas Notaro led all players with a
game-high three points. In the 51st minute with the game still
scoreless, Notaro took a crossing pass from Liam
Stimpson and put it in the back of the net for the 1-0
lead.
- In the 57th minute, Malcolm
Montilus received a nice lead pass from Notaro and went
on the breakaway for the score and put NYU up 2-0.
"Regarding the freshmen, they're doing really well so far this
season, but we must not forget the bench and the experienced
players that are bringing the young guys along," Behan said. "We
know it's still a long season ahead of us so we have to be careful
and make sure we use everyone as much as we possibly can."
- Lucas Doucette improved to 3-0-0 on the
season, making two saves in the win.
