Kyle Kurfirst Nets Four Goals to Lead Chicago to 5-1 win at Aurora

From University of Chicago Athletics

Senior forward Kyle Kurfirst scored a career-best four goals on Tuesday as the University of Chicago men's soccer team defeated Aurora University 5-1.

The Maroons bounced back from their first loss to improve to 4-1-0. The Spartans fell to 3-1-1 on the year. Kurfirst's four goals were the most by a Maroon since sophomore forward Victor Raber also had four versus Rockford University on Oct. 27, 2013.

It took 35 seconds for Kurfirst to get his first tally of the game. The senior scored on a header from the foot of freshman defender Stacey Reimann. His second goal came only 24 seconds later, this time unassisted. The two quick strikes in the game's first minute gave UChicago a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Almost four minutes into the second half, Aurora got on the board with a goal from Steven Soderstrom. Kurfirst was back at it in the 66th minute and scored the hat track up close thanks to another Reimann assist. Senior midfielder Michael Choquette got in on the action in the 69th minute by setting up Kurfirst for his fourth goal. The Maroons added their final tally in the 89th minute via senior midfielder Conor Goodwin's first goal of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Brett Wiesen (2-1-0) recorded a scoreless first half with no saves. Freshman goalie Hill Bonin took over in the second half, surrendering one goal. The Maroons outshot the Spartans 19-5 in the game, while Aurora had a 3-2 edge on corner kicks. UChicago is currently averaging 3.4 goals per game this season.
