The University of Chicago men's soccer team made a first-half goal stand up in a 1-0 victory over No. 6-ranked Emory University on Saturday.

The Maroons improved to 7-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). They handed the Eagles (11-1-1, 1-1-0 UAA) their first loss of the season.

UChicago was in control for most of the first half, taking four of the first five shots of the match. The offensive attack struck pay dirt in the 29th minute. Senior midfielder Michael Choquette sent a cross through the air to the head of sophomore forward Brenton Desai, who then headed the ball into the goal. Choquette's assist was his sixth of the season and Desai's goal was also his sixth this year.

The Maroons maintained the 1-0 lead until halftime and led the shots category 8-4. In the second half, the two teams combined to take 14 shots. But there was no further scoring the rest of the way. Freshman goalkeeper Hill Bonin (5-1-1) kept the Eagles at bay with four saves en route to his third career shutout.

The visitors led the final shots tally 14-12, as well as 2-1 in corner kicks.
