Overtime Goal Gives Chicago 1-0 Victory Over Rochester

Senior midfielder Nic Lopez scored on a rebound in overtime to hand the University of Chicago men's soccer team a 1-0 win at University of Rochester on Friday.

The Maroons (8-4-1 overall, 2-0-1 UAA) shut out their third-straight conference opponent. The Yellowjackets dropped to 6-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in the UAA.

The two sides battled to a 0-0 tie at the break. UChicago led in shots 5-4, while Rochester hit the post with a shot attempt in the early minutes. The Yellowjackets began to fire off more shots in the second half. Maroons goalkeeper Hill Bonin kept the home team at bay each time, totaling five saves in the match.

Lopez came close to putting the Maroons ahead with about five minutes left in regulation. But his 1-on-1 chance was saved by the goalie. Four minute into the first overtime, Lopez struck the decisive blow with a rebound goal following a shot from senior midfielder Michael Choquette.

UChicago led the shots category 13-11 and corner kicks were even at two apiece.
