With the conference title and a postseason bid on the line, the University of Chicago men's soccer team came through on both counts with a 1-0 victory over Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday.

The Maroons improved to 11-5-2 overall and won the University Athletic Association (UAA) championship at 5-0-2 in league play. The Bears dropped to 8-7-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference.

UChicago men's soccer now owns three UAA championships, with the previous two coming in 2001 and 2009. The team gained the UAA's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship field and will make its sixth trip to the postseason (1996, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2014).

The game's only goal came in the 74th minute of the second half. UChicago earned a free kick from about 26 yards out and junior midfielder Jorge Bilbao stepped up to take it. His shot glanced off the wall of defenders in front and bounced in for his third goal of the year.

Goalkeeper Hill Bonin aided the effort by submitting his seventh clean sheet of the year. The freshman compiled four saves to run his record to 9-2-2. As a defensive unit, the Maroons only allowed one goal in seven UAA contests.
