It was a great senior day sendoff in the final regular season
game with two seniors scoring the goals in the University of
Rochester men's soccer teams 2-0 victory over Case Western Reserve
on Saturday evening at Fauver Stadium.
Rochester closes out the regular season with a 9-5-3 record,
including a 3-3-1 UAA, tying for third in the conference standings
with 10 points. Case ends the season on a sour note, ending
with an 8-6-4 record, 2-3-2 in the UAA.
Keeton scored his fifth goal on Saturday.UR senior Ben Keeton
opened the scoring at 11:14 on a great individual play. He
gained possession of the ball and sprinted to the edge of the box
from the right sideline, and unleashed a hard left footed shot
perfectly into the top right corner of the net.
In the 30th minute, it was fellow senior Alex Swanger netting his
second score of the season off a long cross from teammate Jeffrey
Fafinski. Fafinski's pass from along the end line was
originally intended for Jeff Greblick who ended up overrunning the
ball, only to find Swanger all alone six yards out for the
finish.
Case's best opportunity came early in the second half when Jacob
Grindel had a shot that was saved 10 yards off the line by UR
keeper Michael Shatkin. The ensuing rebound went out to the
Spartans' Michael Balog who took a shot at the open net which ended
up being blocked away by the Yellowjacket defense for a corner
kick.
In the goals, Shatkin earned the victory making that one save while
Calvin Boyle turned away five shots in the loss.
The Yellowjackets held a 10-6 shot advantage and earned four
corners to Case Western Reserve's two.
