Joe Behan Resigns as NYU Men's Soccer Head Coach

From NYU Athletics

Joe Behan, who has served as New York University's men's soccer Head Coach since 1996, has resigned his position effective immediately.

Citing his need to "attend to family health reasons", Behan leaves NYU as the winningest coach in team history. Over his first 19 years, including one game this season, Behan's teams posted an overall 175-145-35 (.542) record. The Violets made three NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure, including a Final Four berth in 2006.

"It is unfortunate that Coach Behan's situation has arisen at the beginning of this season," said Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics Christopher Bledsoe. "We thank Joe for the service he has provided and wish him the very best."

Overall, Behan's teams made 10 postseason appearances, including two Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Tournament Championships (2001, 2012) and one University Athletic Association (UAA) title (2010).

Behan graduated from NYU in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature after a stellar playing career as a Violet. He was a two-time First Team All-UAA honoree as a defender and midfielder.

The Violets won its first game of the 2015 season, and the last of Behan's NYU coaching career, 2-1 over Hunter College on Tuesday.

NYU will announce its new Head Coach on Friday, September 4.
