From Brandeis University Athletics

A goal with less than five minutes to go in regulation tonight lifted the Brandeis University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory in a closely-fought University Athletic Association contest against the University of Chicago Maroons. The Judges – ranked No. 4 in the nation by D3soccer.com and No. 7 by the NSCAA - improve to 12-1-1 on the season, 3-0 in the UAA. Chicago falls to 7-4-2, 0-2-1 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brandeis finally broke the deadlock in the 85^th minute. After a long punt from Brandeis sophomore Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) bounced in the Chicago half of the field, junior forward Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass./Brooks School) came down with it and touched it into the Chicago box.
• Classmate Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) beat a charging Chicago goalkeeper to the ball, took one touch and deposited it into the side netting for the game-winner.
• The match was scoreless through the first half, with Chicago controlling play. The Maroons outshot Brandeis, 5-3, and earned seven corners against none for the Judges.
• Woodhouse  made two saves in the first half, and rookie back Stephen DiPietto (Westbury, N.Y./Berkshire School) cleared a ball off the line in the 15^thminute off a UC corner.
• Woodhouse denied the Maroons' Jorge Bilbao early in the second half, while the Judges tested Bonin twice in the 55^th minute.
• Senior midfielder Jake Picard (Avon, Conn./Avon) had a shot blocked and another cleared off the line in the 73^rd minute.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Brandeis outshot Chicago, 8-5, in the second half to finish with an 11-10 edge for the game.
• It was their closest margin since an 11-4 deficit against Tufts in a 1-0 win on Sept. 26.
• Chicago finished with an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.
• Woodhouse finished with four saves, while Hill had two stops.
• The goal was Jastremski's first of the season after missing all but three of the previous games this season to injury. It was his third career game-winner and the seventh goal of his career overall.
• Vieira's assist was his first of the campaign, fifth of his career.

• Brandeis now leads the all-time series with Chicago, 15-11-2.
• The win avenges one of the Judges' two regular-season losses from 2014, a 1-0 decision in the Windy City.
• The home team has won the last six meetings in the series.
• The win is Brandeis's eighth this season by a 1-0 score. Eleven of their 12 wins have been one-goal affairs.
• Brandeis is now unbeaten in their last 11 matches (10-0-1), matching their streak of last season, though the 2014 squad's matches were all wins. The longest streak in school history was a 17-match unbeaten string from the end of 2011 (5-0) to the start of 2012 (11-0-1) when they went 16-0-1.
