From Brandeis University Athletics

The Brandeis University men's soccer team returned to the Top 10 in Division III today with a 2-1 victory over Wheaton College on the road. The Judges, who are ranked #3 in the nation by D3soccer.com and #8 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, scored once in each half and survived a late goal to defeat the Lyons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Senior Michael Chaput (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) opened the scoring in the 32^nd minute with his first goal of the season and the fourth of his career. He hit the post with his initial shot then buried the rebound.
• The eventual game-winner came from rookie Joshua Handler (Oakdale, Conn./Montville) on an assist from senior back Robbie Lynch (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) in the 52^nd minute. It was Handler's first collegiate score and Lynch's first assist of the campaign and fifth of his career.
• Wheaton's Curran Wait cut the Brandeis lead in half in the 74^th minute.
• Brandeis didn't allow another shot from the Lyons until the final minute of the game, when sophomore Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) denied Wait again.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Both Brandeis goals were notched by reserves who had their first scores of the season.
• All eight of Brandeis's victories this season have been by one goal.
• This was the first time since Sept. 4 (2-1 win in 2 OT vs. Hardin-Simmons in Texas) that the Judges scored twice in a contest.
• Wait's goal was the first allowed by the Judges in five games. It had been 633 minutes since they surrendered a score, dating back to the fourth minute of a 2-0 loss to Trinity (Texas) on Sept. 5.
• Woodhouse's only save was the one he made in the final minute.
• Wheaton's Matt Dickey had seven stops in the losing effort.

TEAM RECORDS

• Brandeis is now 8-1 on the season, having won six in a row.
• Wheaton falls to 7-4.
• The Judges improve to 13-15-2 against the Lyons with their fifth-straight win in the series.
