From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team rallied from a one-goal deficit to defeat Grove City College 3-1 on Friday, September 25. The 13th-ranked Tartans are now 6-1-1 on the year while the Wolverines fall to 5-3-0.

Grove City's Seth Loew gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute after he flicked a throw-in by Tim Shackleton over the defender and senior Eric Bykowsky (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) in goal for the Tartans. Shackleton's throw-in bounced in front of Loew who leapt and flicked the ball backwards with his head for his second goal of the season.

The Tartans equalized in the 59th minute when the Tartans got through the Wolverine defense and junior Tristan Lockwood (Fairport, N.Y./Victor) finished a rebounded shot by freshman Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove). Masciopinto hit a hard driven shot from close range that Ben Weaver kicked saved but the ball bounced back to Lockwood who slid forward and got to the loose ball before the defense for the shot and score.

A little more than 10 minutes later, junior Devin Keane (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) gave the Tartans the 2-1 lead when he too finished a rebounded shot. This time, senior William Webb(Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) took a shot on goal that was saved by Weaver but bounced out to Keane who was able to get the shot past the defense for his third of the year.

Lockwood stuck again with an insurance goal for the Tartans in the 77th minute. Junior Stefan Dasbach (Philadelphia, Pa./Wissahickon) crossed a low pass from the right corner across the box to Lockwood who was making a far-post run. It was an easy finish for Lockwood who aimed his shot at the near post for his fifth goal of the year.

Bykowsky earned the win, making four saves for the match.
