Tartans Open Home Slate with 2-1 Victory

The Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory against La Roche College at home Friday, September 4 during the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Showcase. The Tartans improve to 2-0 on the year while the Redhawks sit at 0-1.

William Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) opened the scoring in the 24th minute when he took a few touches across the 18-yard box and fired a shot to the far post. Freshman Greg Bellwoar( Devon, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) earned the assit by feeding Webb the pass from the right of the 18-yard box.

Four minutes later, La Roche equalized when Aaron Lagnese finished a cross from Tyler Grebur that was sent across the goal.

With 3:44 to go in the half, play was suspended due to lightning. After the 30-minute delay, the Tartans earned a free kick with 36 seconds to play. Junior Tristan Lockwood (Fairport, N.Y./Victor) fired the free kick from 25 yards out to the right near post upper 90 for the goal.

The Tartans controlled possession and fired nine shots in the second frame.

Senior Eric Bykowsky (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) recorded one save, coming in the final minute, to record his second victory.
