Spartans Defeat Capital 2-1 One-Man Short

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated Capital University 2-1 on Saturday evening despite playing down a player through a majority of the game.

The Spartans advance to 4-1 overall on the season.

Finding the back of the net for the Spartans were junior midfielders Joshua Prosser (Springfield, Va./South County) and freshman midfielder Jacob Phillips (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption)

To give CWRU a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute of play, Prosser touched a ball deflected off of a Capital definder and the shot came inside the middle of box. At 23:05 in the first half, CWRU received a red card sending a player off the field for the remainder of the night. The Crusaders took this advantage to score a goal to tie the game at 1-1. The Spartans, determined to keep in the game, sent a second ball into the back of the goal before the half. Phillips scored his goal off a shot sliding in box from a free kick from senior midfielder Dean Balabanov (Chicago, Ill./University of Chicago Laboratory) in the 30th minute of play.
