Noah Kleedtke’s ‘Golden Goal’ Gives Spartans 1-0 Win over Tartans in Season Finale

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University freshman Noah Kleedtke connected on a 'golden goal' in the second overtime period on Saturday night to give the Spartans a 1-0 win over Carnegie Mellon University in their regular season finale.

The Spartans ended the 2015 campaign with an overall record of 13-4-1, including a 4-3-0 mark in UAA play, while Carnegie Mellon wrapped up the regular season with an 11-3-3 record, with a 3-2-2 conference ledger.  The 13 wins in 2015 marked the most wins by the Spartans in a season since the 2011 campaign.  CWRU finished the year second in the UAA standings.

The game was scoreless throughout regulation and the first overtime, before Kleedtke struck for the game-winning score, his third of the season, with just 2:01 left to play in the match.  The freshman launched a shot from the edge of the six-yard box that evaded traffic in front of the net and found the back of the goal for the match-clinching score.

The match was played tightly throughout, with the Spartans finishing with 15 total shots, including six on goal, while the Tartans registered 14 shots, including nine on target.  CWRU goalkeeper Calvin Boylemade nine saves, en route to the shutout.

Prior to the start of the game, the Spartans recognized their seven graduating players – Dean Balabanov, Devon Belew, Chris Cvecko, Logan Glosser, Slater Jameson, Alex Masciopinto and Matthew Zembas – who played in the final game of their collegiate careers on Saturday.
