Chris Cvecko of CWRU Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Men’s Soccer Team

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior midfielder Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America® Division III Men's Soccer Third Team, based on his outstanding achievements both on the pitch and in the classroom over his career as a Spartan.

Cvecko becomes the 87th person in the history of Case Western Reserve athletics to receive CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition.  He is just the seventh player in the history of the men's soccer program to earn the honor, joining former Spartans Jeff Rights (1984), Jarrod Predina (2005), Kevin Bigart (2007), Zeyad Schwen (2008), Niro Wimalasena (2011) and Eric Erb (2012).

Earlier this season, Cvecko was named the University Athletic Association Most Valuable Player as well as earning All-UAA First Team honors. He became just the second player in the program's history to be named the UAA MVP, along with former Spartan Vinny Bell, who earned the award in both 2010 and 2011. This is also his third straight season earning first-team honors. He is only the third Spartan in program history to have received the prestigious honor three times along with Mark Ruegsegger (1992-94) and Vinny Bell (2009-2011).

Cvecko finished the 2015 season with a career-high 22 points and 10 goals.  The two-year captain ended his career ranked sixth in school history with 67 points and 26 goals, as well as adding on 15 assists during his time as a Spartan.  During his tenure with the program, the midfielder has also been named to the All-Great Lakes Region Third Team.

Cvecko, who became eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team after earning Academic All-District selection in October, carries a 3.40 cumulative grade point average as an Engineering major at CWRU.  He has received UAA All-Academic honors three times over his career, and has been a selection to the OCSA Academic All-Ohio First Team.

Case Western Reserve's 86 Academic All-Americans to begin the year ranked as the 14th-most among NCAA Division III institutions and are tied for 59th among all collegiate athletic programs.

Cvecko and the Spartans finished the 2015 campaign with a 13-4-1 record, and placed second in the University Athletic Association with a 4-3 conference ledger.
