From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior captain Chris Cvecko put the Spartans on the board in the second minute of play, and added a second goal in the 48thminute, to pace the squad to a 2-0 win over John Carroll University at DiSanto Field on Wednesday night.

The win was the third-straight victory for the Spartans, who improved to 5-1-0 overall this season, while John Carroll dropped to 3-2-1 with the loss.

Cvecko's first goal came quickly, with the midfielder striking at the 1:09 mark of the game.  Senior Devin Belew sent a cross into the middle of the 18-yard box that Cvecko was able to volley into the net for the score.  It was Belew's first career assist.

CWRU remained on top 1-0 until early in the second half.  At the 47:10 mark, Cvecko was able to deflect a pass from junior Jacob Grindel on the wing past the Blue Streaks' keeper for his second score of the game, extending the Spartans' advantage to 2-0.  Grindel earned his first assist of the campaign on the play.

The two-goal game was just the second multiple goal game of Cvecko's career.  He also scored a pair as a sophomore against Hiram College on October 1st, 2013.  Cvecko is now tied for the team lead with four goals, and leads all CWRU players with nine points in 2015.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christian Grimme made the first start of his career, earning the shutout and the victory.  He converted a career-best four saves during his 90 minutes in net.

The Spartans' defense recorded its third team shutout of the season, limiting the Blue Streaks to 10 shots, with just four on goal.
