Four different Spartans scored as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned a 5-0 win versus The University of Mount Union in the 2015 season opener.
Sophomore forward Michael Balog (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), senior midfielder Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and sophomore midfielder Paul Darmstadter (Alexandria, Va./George Mason) all found the back of the net.
CWRU struck for its first goal in the 17th minute after a Mount Union foul. Balog sent in and buried a shot for the early 1-0 lead. Nearly six minutes later, the Spartans struck again as Cvecko scored his first goal of the season, courtesy of a feed by sophomore defender Evan Powell (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor). To end the first half, CWRU scored a goal in the 40th minute of play as Darmstadter took advantage of another Mount Union foul to give the Spartans a 3-0 edge.
In the 58th minute of the second half, Darmstadter struck again with an unassisted goal. To seal-the-deal, CWRU found the back of the net once more as senior forward Matthew Zembas (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley N.W.) scored the game-winning goal.
Overall, CWRU outshot Mount Union, 24-3, and held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
