From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

The No. 18 Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team opened up University Athletic Association games with a 4-1 win over New York University on Saturday afternoon in New York City.

The Spartans, who are now on a seven-game winning streak, improve to 9-1 on the season and 1-0 in the UAA, while the Violets drop to 3-6 and 0-1 in the UAA.

After a scoreless first half, the Spartans were first to find the back of the goal. Sophomore forward Michael Balog put in a header off of a free kick from junior midfielder Jacob Grindel in the 63rd minute of play. The goal served as Balog's sixth of the season. Just under four minutes later, the Violets responded with a goal of their own off of a free kick to tie up the game.

CWRU senior Chris Cvecko then scored three goals within 11 minutes of one another to win conference opener. Cvecko struck for the first time in the 78th minute, giving the Spartans a 2-1 edge. In the 86th minute, he dribbled twice around a Violet defender and into the center of the box and sent one into the back of the net. Cvecko would repeat this move again in the 89th minute, but this time around the Violets goalkeeper to secure the CWRU victory. Cvecko's final goal of the game served as his eighth goal of the season and serves as a new career-high for goals in a single season.
