Spartans Advance to 2-0 After Blanking Pitt-Greensburg

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Sophomore forward Michael Balog (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) led the Spartans scoring two goals as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned a 6-0 win versus University of Pitt-Greensburg to remain undefeated in the 2015 season.

Also finding the back of the net in the shutout were senior midfielder Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell), senior forward Logan Glosser (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills), junior midfielder Jacob Grindel (Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University H.S.) and freshman midfielder Jacob Phillips (Davenport, Iowa/Assumption).

The Spartans began their scoring streak with a solo attack at the goal by Balog in the 20th minute of play. To give CWRU a 2-0 lead heading into the half, Cvecko received a pass through the middle from freshman midfielder Noah Kleedtke (Brighton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) and sent the ball past the goalkeeper to the right side of the net.

The Spartans went on into the second half scoring four unanswered goals against the Bobcats. Just 2:12 into the second, Grindel went down the field scoring an unassisted goal to the upper left hand side. Balog struck for his second goal of the game, third of the season, off of another assist from Kleedtke. To give the Spartans a 5-0 lead, Phillips struck the back of the net in the 69th minute of play and to seal-the-deal for the Spartans Glosser scored a goal from the left side to the right corner of the net with just three minutes left in the game.

Overall, CWRU outshot Pitt-Greensburg, 29-5, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
