Spartans Score Nine Goals in Shutout Against Waynesburg

Junior midfielder Brandon White and sophomore forward Alex Keller-Biehl each scored three goals as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team recorded a 9-0 win over Waynesburg University on Saturday night at John F. Wiley Stadium.

This shutout is the ninth of the Spartans 2015 season as the team improves to 12-2-1 overall and remains 3-1-0 in the University Athletic Association. The Yellow Jackets now drop to 1-14-1 overall and remain 1-4-1 in the PAC.

Three Spartans struck for three goals in the first half, beginning just within the 13th minute of play as senior forward Matthew Zembas scored his fourth goal of the season. Senior midfielder Alex Masciopinto found the back of the net in the 33rd minute for his second goal overall. To send the Spartans into halftime up 3-0, in the 42nd minute of play off of a pass from junior forward Joshua Prosser, freshman midfielder Paul Darmstadter found the back of the net for his fourth goal this season. 

White and Keller-Biehl each recorded three goals in the second half and freshman midfielder Jacob Phillipstallied three assists to complete the shutout. Keller-Biehl struck twice, unassisted, in the 47th and 80th minutes of play. Just three minutes later, in the 83rd minute off of a pass from Phillips, Keller-Biehl scored for his third goal of the season. White scored back-to-back goals in the 64th minute, unassisted, as well as the 72nd minute off of a pass from Phillips. White also scored with just 43 seconds left on the clock, again, after fielding a pass from Phillips, to complete the hat trick.
