To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Voting for this award is conducted by the Academic All-America Committee and CoSIDA Board of Directors.

Emory athletes have now claimed 163 Academic All-American honors in the program's history. The honor marks the first time in Sherr's career that he has been named an Academic All-American, having been named Academic All-District both as a junior and senior. Sherr is the ninth player in the history of the men's soccer program to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and is just the fourth to earned First Team distinction and the first since Adam Waxman (2010-11).

"This is a very deserving award for Matt," said Head Coach Sonny Travis. "He's had a great year on the field as a captain and we hope he is not finished receiving awards for his fine play."

"Obviously, off the field he is a bright student, a good leader and we're really going to miss having him be a part of this program next season," Travis continued.

Sherr wrapped up an impressive four-year career with the Eagles, starting in every game but two in his career and leaves the program as the all-time leader in minutes played. He set career highs with four goals and 10 points this year, making his third consecutive appearance on the All-UAA First Team. Previously, Sherr was named a D3Soccer.com Third Team All-American last season, a NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region Third Team selection in 2013 and has been recognized as a UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week five times in his career including twice this season. In his 71 games played, Sherr racked up nine goals, six assists for 24 points and helped lead Emory to the UAA Championship in 2012 and NCAA tournament berths in 2012 and 2014.

Off the field, the Roslyn, NY native is completing his Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting degree from the Goizueta Business School, carrying a 3.859 GPA, and was named to the UAA Fall All-Academic team for the third time in his career. Sherr has gained professional experience with AndGo Sports and HSBC (Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corp.) and is currently a member of Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as serving as the Fundraiser Committee Chairman for the men's soccer team.
