Sonny Travis Notches Career Coaching Win #400 as Emory Downs Sewanee 1-0

From Emory University Athletics

The Emory University men's soccer team improved to 3-3-1 on the year, defeating Sewanee University 1-0 on Wednesday night. With the win, Head Coach Sonny Travis becomes just the 18th coach to reach the 400 wins milestone in Division III history and just the 39th coach to do so in all of NCAA men's soccer.

Sewanee allowed an own goal just 1:40 minutes into the contest and that was all the Eagles needed on the evening. Emory held the Tigers to just six shots with five being on goal while the Blue and Gold had nine shots with four being on target.

After restricting Sewanee to no scoring opportunities for the first 37 minutes of the second half, the Tigers threatened with two shots that looked destined for the back of the net in the waning minutes. However, senior defensemen Matt Sherr made two incredible diving saves on both attempts to keep the score at 1-0 with eight minutes remaining. Sherr made his first stop diving head first to make a spectacular header save and then moments later made a great kick save to keep the Tigers out of the scoring column.

Senior Abe Hannigan made three stops in the game to record his second shutout of the season and his 19th clean sheet of his career.
