NYU Picks Up 1-0 UAA Victory at Emory

From NYU Athletics

With just under six minutes gone in the first half, Tristan Medios-Simon sent a cross that was headed in for the goal at the far post by Ricardo Mitrano for the game's only goal.

That was how the New York University men's soccer team picked up their first University Athletic Association (UAA) victory of the season, 1-0 on the road over Emory University on Sunday afternoon, November 1, in Atlanta, GA.

"I give full credit to the team," said NYU Head Coach Kim Wyant. "They've faced a lot of adversity throughout the year but have kept working and believing so this is a sweet result for all of us."

The Violets (6-11, 1-5 UAA) and Eagles (8-6-2, 2-3-1 UAA) played virtually even, with NYU holding the slight edge in both shots (11-10) and shots on goal (3-2).

In addition to Mitrano's success, NYU keeper Lucas Doucette notched two saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

"We saw many of the things we've been working on during practice finally all come together," continued Wyant. "The guys all played for each other with focus and 90 minutes of intensity and heart."

HIGHLIGHTS:

Petter Aasa led all players with four total shots.

- The two teams combined for five yellow cards (NYU: 3, Emory: 2).
