From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's soccer team picked up its third victory of the season on Saturday night, September 19. The Violets defeated New Jersey City University at home 1-0 in the first overtime period at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

"I was really pleased with our work rate and work effort. It was tremendous from the first whistle to the last," said NYU Head Coach Kim Wyant. "We put in a great performance and kept our composure even though we had to work through some frustrations...and it paid off in the end."

NYU (3-3) and the Gothic Knights (1-6) played an extremely physical game in which seven total cards (all yellow) were handed out. In addition, both squads were virtually even offesnviely. Each team attempted 15 total shots with six landing on net.

Inder Sharma was the only player to break through on the scoreboard in the game. The rookie forward capatilized on a scrum in front of the Gothic Knight net and was able to sneak one past the NJCU keeper for the golden goal in the game's 97th minute.

"We told the guys during the break that our movement off the ball was very good and we just needed to be calmer with it," continued Wyant. "We got the ball into the box and our guys were there to finish it."

Lucas Doucette picked up the victory for NYU. The junior keeper recorded six saves on Saturday for his second shutout of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sharma led NYU with two shots on goal, while Ricardo Mitrano had a team-high three total shots.

- Theo Sanoh of NJCU led all players with seven shots overall and four shots on goal.
