Maroons Garner Selection to NCAA Championship for Second Year in a Row

The University of Chicago men's soccer team is making a return trip to the NCAA Division III Championship after its at-large selection to the tournament on Monday afternoon.

The Maroons will open action against No. 2-ranked Thomas More College at 1:30 PM (ET) on Saturday, Nov. 14. Kenyon College (17-1-0) is the host of the four-team regional and will start the day with an 11:00 AM (ET) match versus Westminster College (11-5-4). The winners will face off at 1:00 PM (ET) on Sunday.

  • UCHICAGO NOTES: This selection is UChicago's second-consecutive NCAA Championship berth and it marks the first time the team has reached the postseason in back-to-back seasons since 2005 and 2006 … At the end of the regular season, the UChicago category leaders are junior forward Brenton Desai (11 goals, 23 points), freshman forward Matthew Koh (8 assists) and sophomore goalkeeper Hill Bonin (4 shutouts) … Desai is tied for the sixth-most career goals and seventh-most career points in school history; Koh moves into a tie for third most single-season assists; and Bonin holds the fifth-highest career shutout total … UChicago's victory over Washington-St. Louis was just the second match this season in which the Maroons allowed more than one goal.
  • THOMAS MORE NOTES: This is Thomas More's seventh-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance … During an eight-match winning streak from October 4 to November 1, the Saints averaged 4.9 goals per game … Leading scorers Austin Juniet and Brian Runyon have combined for 33 goals and 33 assists (99 points) on the season … In their last match, the Saints lost 2-1 at home to Westminster (Pa.) in the PAC Tournament semifinal.
