Brenton Desai Kicks Chicago Past Olivet 2-1

On a stormy afternoon on the road, the University of Chicago men's soccer team took advantage of a pair of penalty kicks to down Olivet College 2-1 on Thursday.

The No. 18-ranked Maroons improved to 2-0-0 while the Comets fell to 0-2-0.

The game experienced significant lightning delays at the start and late in the first half. Once the two teams were able to resume, UChicago opened the scoring at the 38:32 mark. The Maroons earned a penalty kick and junior forward Brenton Desai buried the shot to capture the lead. However, only 69 seconds later, Olivet tied the score at 1-1.

The deciding blow was struck at 60:21 in the second half when Desai scored his second penalty kick of the game for his third goal of the young season. The Maroons kept control from that point on to earn the victory.

UChicago led the shots category 17-10 and corner kicks 9-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Hill Bonin (2-0-0) collected four saves with one goal allowed.
