The No. 17-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 1-0 win at Westminster College Wednesday night in Fulton, Mo.

WashU improved to 7-1-3 with the win, while Westminster had its nine-game win streak snapped and fell to 9-2.

Senior Jack West scored the lone goal of the game in the 51st minute when he headed home a corner kick from junior Grant Baltes. The goal was West's team-leading sixth of the year, while Baltes recorded his conference-leading sixth assist of the year.

"I am really happy with how we played tonight. We went with a different lineup and we started fast," said WashU head coach Joe Clarke. "We talk about a lot scoring off restarts, and it worked tonight. Grant sent a really good ball into the box, and Jack had a nice head ball goal."

Junior goalkeeper Daniel Geanon (4-0-2) made two saves as WashU posted its fifth shutout of the season.

Westminster outshot WashU 16-14, but the Bears had an 11-6 advantage in corner kicks.

"We put in some nice serves tonight, which allowed us to get some counter attacks and corner kicks," Clarke added.

WashU steps back into conference play with a road game at Emory University (6-3-1, 1-0 UAA) on Saturday, Oct. 10. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. (ET) in Atlanta.
