he New York University men's soccer team ended its regular season with a 1-0 win against Brandeis University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, on Saturday, November 5.
The Violets (9-7-2, 3-4-0 UAA) scored the game's lone goal when Tristan Medios-Simon connected on a free kick from just outside the box midway through the first half. Medios-Simon's goal was his seventh of the season and came at the 23:06 mark of the opening half.
"I saw a great fight from our team from the opening whistle until the game ended," said NYU Head Coach Kim Wyant. "We put in a plan earlier this week to beat Brandeis, and I think we stuck to it the whole game."
Brandeis (10-5-3, 3-2-2 UAA) finished the contest with an 11-6 advantage in shots and 5-3 in shots on goal, but the Judges were unable to solve NYU goalkeeper Lucas Doucette, who made five saves in the win.
Doucette was one of six NYU seniors honored on Senior Day in a pre-game ceremony. He was joined by classmates Petter Aasa, Michael Cheaney, Richie Cornell, Deniz Oncu and Bryan Walsh.
"Its awesome to get a great win like this in our last UAA game," said Doucette, following his third shutout of the season. "I'm excited about the potential this program has shown down the stretch this season and I look forward to watching the underclassmen keep it going in the future."
