Chicago Shuts Out North Central 4-0

A complete offensive and defensive effort netted the University of Chicago men's soccer team a 4-0 victory at North Central College on Wednesday evening.

The No. 4-ranked Maroons (8-0) recorded their seventh shutout in eight games. They have outscored opponents 22-1 over the course of the season. The Cardinals dropped to 1-5-1.

Brenton Desai nearly put his team ahead in the ninth minute, hitting the crossbar with his shot. But the senior forward converted not long after at the 18:05 mark to make the score 1-0. Less than eight minutes later, sophomore forward Max Lopez headed in his seventh goal of the season to establish a new career high. Junior defender Gary Huang provided the assist for his first career point.

With only six seconds remaining in the first half, senior forward Chris Mathis staked the Maroons to a 3-0 lead – his third goal of the campaign. UChicago led the shots category 8-4 at the halftime break.

Freshman midfielder Renato Corghi provided the final goal of the night at the 76:01 mark. Overall, UChicago led North Central in both shots (18-11) and corner kicks (7-2).

Hill Bonin (8-0) experienced his busiest match of the month, making a season-high five saves. The junior goalkeeper registered his seventh shutout and lowered his goal against average to 0.12.
