From University of Rochester Athletics
Jeff Greblick set up the tying goal and scored the winning goal late in the second half as the University of Rochester posted a 2-1 victory over visiting Hobart College on Saturday evening.
Rochester raised its record to 3-0. Hobart is 0-3-1.
Goalkeepers Morgan Sawyer for Hobart (six saves) and Patrick Conway for Rochester (three saves) were kept busy fending off a myriad of counter attacks and traffic in front of their own goal, not all of which resulted in a shot.
After lots of thrust-and-parry in midfield, Hobart earned a throwin deep in the Rochester zone. Joe Busuttil, who proved to be one of the most effective offensive threats for the guests, threw it along the end line. A teammate tried to push it on, but missed. Conway was at the near post trying to thwart it. The ball got past him and Mitch Palmer was there to touch it into the left hand corner at 33:36.
Three and a half minutes later, Busuttil was in the mix again, throwing it from the left sideline to the near post. Conway did well to palm it away from the top corner of the net as it bounced off a series of shoulders.
In the second half, another Busuttil throwin resulted in a high shot by Zach Poretz. Rochester picked up the offensive pace at that point. In the 50th minute, a counter attack down the left flank pushed the ball across the face of goal. Michael Cross fired. Conway managed to deflect it, then pounce on the rebound. Nearly three minutes later, Greblick hammered the ball from left wing for Alex DiPerna, but Conway came out to grab it.
Rochester took the ball away in the Hobart defensive third in the last five minutes. Mario Yanez Tapia pushed it forward and Greblick broke in alone on Sawyer. He scored to the low left corner in the 86th minute.
