Late Goal Lifts Bears Past Dominican 1-0

Sophomore Ryan Sproule found the back of the net in 89thminute to lead the No. 24-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Dominican University (Ill.) Saturday in River Forest, Ill.

Sproule took a pass from graduate student Jack West and slid a shot to the far corner for the game-winner. The goal for Sproule was his first of the season and eighth of his career.

Head coach Joe Clarke picked up career win No. 424 in his illustrious career, moving into 30thplace all-time in men's college soccer history. Clarke is 219-99-43 in 20 seasons at WashU and 424-173-73 in 34 years as a head coach.

Senior goalkeeper Daniel Geanon (2-0) recorded the shutout in goal for WashU as the Bears did not allow a shot on goal for the second-straight contest.

WashU outshot Dominican 11-2 and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

WashU hosts No. 7-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) in its 2016 home opener Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Bear Sports Network.
