The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Senior Day with No. 1-ranked University of Chicago Saturday at Francis Field in St. Louis.
Prior to Saturday's contest, WashU honored its 12 seniors – Grant Baltes, Daniel Geanon, Kevin Goon, Noah Lieberman, Beau McGinley, Corey Meehan, Sam Nadell, Nick Politan, Andrew Schmitt, Nick Tannenbaum, Jack West and Ike Witte. This group has helped lead the Bears to a 40-19-11 (.650) overall record in four seasons on the Danforth Campus.
WashU finished regular-season play with a 10-4-2, 2-3-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while Chicago was 16-0-2, 5-0-2 in the UAA. The Maroons won the 2016 UAA title and earned the league's automatic bid.
Chicago had a 7-2 shot advantage in the opening half of play. Tannenbaum denied a pair of shots in the first half, and junior Andrew Zingone made a team save in the 21st minute.
McGinley nearly scored the game-winner for WashU in the 95th minute when he was left inside the box, but his shot went wide right.
Early in the second overtime, Chicago goalkeeper Hill Bonin made a diving save on a shot by Goon to keep the game tied at 0-0.
Chicago outshot WashU 12-10 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Tannenbaum (8-3-2) made three saves in goal for WashU, while Bonin recorded four saves.
