From Brandeis University Athletics

In the 65^th meeting between the two teams, the fourth-ranked Brandeis University men's soccer team broke a deadlock just 46 seconds after rival Babson College had equalized late in the second half, giving the Judges a 2-1 victory on Gordon Field tonight. With the win, Brandeis improves to 2-1 on the season, while Babson falls to 2-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brandeis got the only goal of the first half in the 42^nd minute from a pair of relative newcomers. Sophomore transfer Colin Panarra (Belmar, N.J./MATES) flicked a ball to a wide open Devan Casey (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) just inside the 18-yard box.
• Casey, making just his third career appearance for the Judges, chipped the ball over Babson senior James Takami (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor) for his first career goal.
• The second half saw rain set in, making the ball slip on the Brandeis turf. The Judges controlled the early parts of the period, but Babson continued to put on pressure.
• It finally paid off for the visitors in the 83^rd minute. Babson earned a corner kick, and junior Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Acad.) played a ball that was deflected through the box and eventually made its way to junior back Jackson Greenspan (Meriden, N.H./Kimball Union Acad.).
• Greenspan crossed to the head of sophomore forward Chris Czarnecki (Baltimore, Md./Hargrave Military Acad.), who buried it for his first goal of the season.
• The Judges were handed a golden opportunity to go back ahead just 46 seconds later when a Babson player earned his second yellow card of the game on a foul just outside his defensive 18-yard box.
• Brandeis senior Josh Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Academy) stepped over the ensuing free kick and blasted a shot through the Babson wall and into the left netting for what proved to be the game-winner.
• Babson resumed their pressure late and nearly evened the game again the waning moments. Junior Youssef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass./Holbrook) hit the cross-bar with 28 seconds to go, and Ocel blocked a Parker shot wide with five ticks left.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The game was fairly even in shots at 15-12 in favor of Brandeis. The Judges owned a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
• Senior Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) had two saves for the Judges to earn the win.
• Takami made four saves in the losing effort for the Beavers.
• The game-winning goal was the sixth of Ocel's career, but his first since 2015.
• Babson was whistled for twice as many fouls (18-9) and drew three cards to one for Brandeis.

• Brandeis now trails the all-time series with Babson, 26-29-10, in a series that dates back to 1955.
