Junior Jamie Wheaton (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) scored his first career goal, as the 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team defeated Grove City College, 2-0, at home Friday, September 22. The Tartans move their record to 6-1 with their sixth consecutive shutout, while the Wolverines drop to 4-2-2.

Junior Zack Masciopinto (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Buffalo Grove) put the Tartans ahead 1-0 in the 42nd minute when he connected on a header following a corner kick by junior Philip Petrakian (Redwood City, Calif. / Sacred Heart Preparatory). The corner kick was served to the far post where Masciopinto met it with a header to the near post for his fourth goal of the season.

The goal came on the Tartans third shot of the half, as Wheaton put a header on frame in the third minute and junior Anthony Gulli (Warrenville, Ill. / St. Joseph) put a shot high in the 14th minute.

Grove City put their second shot on frame in the 49th minute when Nate Curry lofted a shot to the far post that junior keeper Alec Lam (Upper Saddle River, N.J. / Northern Highlands Regional) pulled down and kept from tying the game.

Wheaton's first career goal came in the 73rd minute when he blasted a low shot from the corner of the 18-yard box to the left post. Sophomore Alex Dziadosz (Boxford, Mass. / Phillips Academy Andover) played a ball to senior Ryan Stinebaugh (Houston, Texas / Strake Jesuit College Prep) with his back to goal. Stinebaugh settled the pass and touched it out wide to Wheaton who dribble by a defender and fired the shot on goal.

Lam earned his sixth win and third shutout by making two saves.
