Zachary Senft’s Goal Gives Spartans 1-0 Win Over #4 Lycoming

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University sophomore midfielder Zachary Senft connected on a goal in the first half on Saturday afternoon to give the Spartans a 1-0 win over No. 4-ranked Lycoming College.

The Spartans improve to 4-3-1 on the season, while Lycoming drops to 8-1-0.

The game was scoreless until the 20th minute of play, when Senft received a perfectly placed pass from sophomore midfielder Marques Manta and delivered a shot pass the Warrior's goalkeeper from the right side of the box. The goal was Senft's third of the season.

CWRU has now defeated two top-five ranked teams in the past two seasons, with the last victory coming against then second-ranked Kenyon College on September 27, 2016.

The Spartans withstood the Lycoming attack throughout the game. CWRU was led by the outstanding play of senior goalkeeper Calvin Boyle who recorded six saves. Even though the Warriors totaled 20 shots on the day, the CWRU defense only allowed six of those shots on goal.
