The New York University men's soccer team closed out its home University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule on Senior Day with a 2-2 tie against Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, October 29, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The Violets are now 8-6-2 overall and 0-5-1 in the UAA this season, while the Bears are 7-6-2 and 1-4-1 in UAA play.
NYU opened the scoring at 27:58 when Maxi Rodriguez recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Matteo Carrieri-Russo broke past his defenders and slid the ball over to Rodriguez who then kicked it past Bears' goalkeeper Colin McCune.
However, with just 20 seconds remaining in the first half, a Washington corner kick launched by Marco Pinheiro descended into a crowd in front of the net and the Bears' Ryan Sproule was able to slide it past Grant Engel in the Violets' net.
Then, with 26:33 remaining in the contest, Washington's Chris Rieger converted a penalty shot to give the Bears a 2-1 lead
However, the Violets tied the score with only 12:06 remaining in the second half when Rodriguez got to a loose ball in the box, was able to settle it and put it past McCune for his seventh tally of the season.
Neither team scored in either of the two 10-minute overtime sessions, though Engel recorded a save with just seven seconds remaining to preserve the deadlock.
Engel finished the contest with nine saves, while McCune recorded six.
