Rochester remained in a tie for first place in the University Athletic Association men's soccer race after earning a 2-0 victory at Case Western Reserve University on Friday evening.

The win boosts Rochester's record to 4-1 in the UAA, 11-2-2 overall. UR is tied with the University of Chicago and Brandeis University, both at 4-1 as well. Emory is just two points back at 3-1-1. Carnegie Mellon, which hosts Rochester on Sunday, is 2-2-1. Chicago plays at Brandeis on Sunday and Emory goes to CWRU.

Alec Hay scored his first goal of the year just before halftime. Geoffrey Rouin doubled the lead in the 71stminute. It was his 12th goal of the season.

Hay's goal came at 44:34, just over a minute after Redd Brown had to save a shot by CWRU's Marques Manta. Josh Cooley crossed the ball into the box from 20 yards away and hay was there to head it into the net.

The Yellowjacket defense and midfield did a good job of not allowing the Spartans any open attacking space or looks at goal. CWRU's Alex Besl had a shot blocked six minutes into the half and eventually earned a corner kick that proved harmless. The Spartans earned another corner in the 70th minute.

Rouin doubled the led at 70:31. Cristian Baltier passed the ball into the middle from 10 yards away and Rouin scored from the right side of the penalty area.

CWRU pressed to break onto the scoreboard. Brady Daulton and Alex Keller-Biehl both shot the ball wide and Zachary Senft forced a save from Brown in the final two minutes.

Brown finished with five saves. Calvin Boyle of CWRU had two saves. Rochester took 11 shots (four on goal) and CWRU had eight (five on goal). The Yellowjackets produced eight corner kicks – all in the second half. CWRU had four.

The win was Rochester's fifth in a row – all by shutout. Brown has nine shutouts this season. That's
