From University of Rochester Athletics

The University of Rochester men's soccer team earned its third straight conference victory, topping NYU 2-0 in University Athletic Association action on Sunday afternoon at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

Rochester moves to 9-2-2 on the year and 3-1 in the conference, pulling into a tie for first place in the UAA standings.  NYU meanwhile falls to 7-5-1 and 0-4 in the conference.

The Yellowjackets provided the first scoring chance of the game just over a minute in, when Aidan Miller headed a free kick from 25 yards out along the left wing just wide of the NYU net.

NYU's first opportunity came six minutes later on a similar play, only from the opposite side, when a cross was sent into the box and found the head of Nic Notaro who connected for a shot on goal, only to have it saved away by UR's Redd Brown.

At the 8:13 mark, Rochester took a 1-0 lead on a beautiful turnaround goal from Bryce Ikeda 12 yards out after Geoffrey Rouin's initial attempt got blocked by the Violet defense.

With just over ten minutes to go in the opening half, Nik Angyal had a header in close off a chipped cross from the left side by teammate Nate Leopold, but NYU keeper Grant Engel was there for the save, keeping it a one goal game heading into intermission.

Ten minutes into the second period, UR's Alex Di Perna used some fancy footwork to find open space in the box and sent a cross to the back post looking for Mitch Volis, only to see the pass lead his teammate a bit too far, thwarting the excellent scoring chance.

At 61:10, NYU's leading scorer Maxi Rodriguez controlled a long free kick with some nice touches, moved into space and fired a hard shot looking for the top left corner, but saw the attempt sail wide left of the UR net.

A minute later, Rochester's Miller controlled a rebound off an Angyal shot at the edge of the crease and slipped a shot passed Engel in the NYU net, but just wide of the post, keeping it 1-0 Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets were able to take a 2-0 lead on a penalty kick goal in the 69th minute after an NYU foul in the box.  Di Perna was able to convert on the free chance, notching his fourth goal of the season.

NYU's Drew Enyedi was denied on an excellent chance four minutes later, after he was slipped a pass in close on the right side, but Brown made a fantastic save, stopping the point blank opportunity.

Overall in the contest, Brown made two saves for the Yellowjackets while Engel made one save for the Violets.  Rochester combined to outshoot the visitors 11-7 and took 11 corners to NYU's two in the game.
