Two Second Half Goals Power Yellowjackets Past Endicott

From University of Rochester Athletics

The University of Rochester men's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 2-0 victory over Endicott College on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.

Rochester moves to 11-1-1 on the year, remaining unbeaten in non-conference play for the 2018 campaign. The loss drops Endicott to 9-5-2 on the year.

UR's goals came from junior Ulrik Koren and junior Josh Cooley while Patrick Conway earned his sixth shutout of the season, making two saves in the Yellowjacket goal.

Rochester's Zach Lawlor had two excellent chances for the Yellowjackets during a scoreless first half.  During UR's opening corner kick of the match at the 13 minute mark, the junior's header sailed just high of the Gulls net. At 35:46, Lawlor had another golden chance, but his header off another corner was cleared off the line by EC defender Will Harton.

The Gulls had their best chance of the opening half in the closing seconds, but Conway made the save off the Jon Breed shot wt 44:58.

It was a quick start to the second half as Koren's tally game less than two minutes in. At 46:56, he was able to head in a long throw in from teammate Bryce Ikeda past a diving Jesse Haines in the Endicott goal.

EC tried to counter, taking a shot on goal less than a minute after the score, but Conway again made the save on the Brandon Haughton shot.

UR's Nik Angyal unleashed an attempt on goal in the 63rd minute, but Haines was there to make one of his three saves on the day.

Cooley boosted the Yellowjacket lead to 2-0 in the 70th minute weaving around multiple defenders and then shooting from just outside the 18 for his fifth of the season.

For the game, Rochester had a 16-9 edge in shots and 6-2 lead in shots on goal, also holding a 4-3 corner kick advantage.
