Jacobson Scores Meet Record, Case Men Capture Fourth-Consecutive Wooster Invite Title

WOOSTER, Ohio – For the fourth consecutive season, the No. 24 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team captured the championship of The College of Wooster Invitational.

The Spartans entered the final day in first place at Ellen Shapiro Natatorium and wound up with 1,509 points. Ohio Northern University was runner-up at 1,398.

The Spartans were led by seven top-five finishes, including an individual title by senior Daniel Jacobson (Solon, Ohio/Solon), who scored a meet-record 458.20 points in the 1-meter dive. Jacobson also won on the 3-meter board during Friday's action. 

A day after breaking his own school record in the 200-yard freestyle, senior Scott McHenry (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) placed second in the 100 free with a time of 46.56. Sophomore Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) and freshman Andrew Henning (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1650 free with times of 16:37.67 and 16:38.38.

Senior co-captain Sean Nickley (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.44) and freshman John Tomko (Hubbard, Ohio/Ursuline) in the 200 butterfly (1:55.88) were each fourth-place finishers.

In relays, the 400 freestyle team of senior Gus Bailey (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), junior Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key), senior co-captain Heath Hudgins (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) and McHenry finished third with a time of 3:08.16.

The Spartans are now idle for winter break training and won't return to competition until Saturday, January 18 at Allegheny College (Pa.).
