Carnegie Mellon Concludes UAA Championships with Five Provisional Cut Times

The University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimming and Diving Championships continued on Saturday at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., as the Carnegie Mellon University men's team picked up five NCAA provisional cut times during the final swim. 

The 200-yard medley relay team of junior Josh Lucheon (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic), sophomore Philip Farr (Campbell, Calif./Bellarmine College), sophomore Carter Sharer (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and senior Eddie Sears (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River) touched in an NCAA provisional cut time of 1:32.34. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, freshman Dustin Ferzacca (Beverly, Mass./Manchester Essex) finished in a provisional cut time of 16:15.47.

Sophomore Alex Dintino (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) recorded two provisional cut times for the evening, one in the 100-yard butterfly touching in 50.11 and the other in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 51.10. Sharer was just behind him in the butterfly in 50.64 as junior Anton Razanav (San Diego, Calif./Westview) touched in 51.86 in the backstroke.

Farr continued his season-best performance with another provisional cut in the 200-yard breaststroke as he finished in 2:05.40.

Sophomore Matthew Nielsen (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) knocked six seconds off his season-best time in the 400-yard IM, touching first in 4:01.13 while junior David Campbell (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) finished eighth in the final in 4:08.13.

In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) reached the finals with a time of 1:41.33 and finished the finals in 1:42.32.

Sharer swam in his second final of the night in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in 21.07 and ahead of Sears who finished in 21.13.

The 400-yard freestyle relay of Sears, Geier, freshman Brian Walsh (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and Sharer ended the meet with a potential third-place finish in 3:05.17.
