Washington University in St. Louis freshman Michael Lagieski was selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Swimmer of the Year and Rookie of the Year, as announced Thursday by the Association.

Lagieski is just the second UAA Swimmer of the Year in school history, joining junior Zane Turpin, who earned the honor in 2013. He became the fifth UAA Rookie of the Year for the Washington U. men, joining Eric Triebe (2003), Alex Beyer (2007), David Chao (2008) and Luke Dobben (2012).

At last weekend's UAA Championships, Lagieski led Washington University to a third-place finish in the team standings, setting a pair of UAA records on his way to winning two individual titles. He set a UAA and WUSTL record with an A-cut time of 54.42 in the 100 breaststroke, and added a UAA record of 2:00.73 to win the 200 breaststroke. Lagieski also swam on Washington U.'s 400-medley relay that set a school record in posting a runner-up finish. He added his fourth all-UAA honors of the meet with a third-place finish as a member of the Bears' 200-medley relay.
