Brian Luk Leads Brandeis Past Babson at WPI

From Brandeis University Athletics

The Brandeis University men's swimming and diving team was paced by junior Brian Luk (Hong Kong/Northfield Mount Hermon) as the Judges defeated Babson, 153-136, but fell to WPI, 162.5-120.5. The meet was held at WPI.

Brandeis's win was their earliest in the season in the last three years. Luk had a pair of individual victories to help them along. He captured the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.01 seconds, 0.28 ahead of the next swimmer from WPI. In the 100 free, he edged the runner-up from the Engineers by just seven-hundredths of a second, 48.23-48.30. Luk also placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.77 seconds.

Also earning victory on the afternoon was senior Max Fabian (Keene, N.H./Oak Meadow). Fabian was a seven-second winner in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:07.72. He was also third in the 500 (4:54.94) and fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:04.12).

Rookie Zach Diamond (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Acad.) was also a key contributor. He was third in the 200 fly (2:03.91) and fourth in the 500 free (4:57.73), finishing just ahead of Fabian in the former and just behind in the latter. Diamond also took fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.20 - earning second-place points as WPI had already clinched victory.

Brandeis added on other runner-up placement when sophomore Cameron Braz (Monson, Mass./Monson) tied for second in the 200 free with a mark of 1:49.64.
