Tartans Dominate in Dual Meet Victory Against Clarion

The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team dominated in a 192-98 win against Clarion University on Saturday, November 1. The Tartans won 12 events for the meet.

The Tartans opened the meet with a 200-yard medley relay win in 1:35.24 behind the swimming of senior Josh Lucheon (Knoxville, Tenn./Knoxville Catholic), freshman Matthew Chu (Warren, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep), sophomore Sivan Mehta (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) and freshman Kevin Steinhouse (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School).

Sophomore Brian Walsh (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:59.70 as senior Andrew Yee (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) was second in 10:06.56. In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Josh Taekman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) was first in 4:47.16 and freshman Alex Glidden (Peabody, Mass./St. John's Prep) was second in 4:56.43.

Junior Steven Geier (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) took first place in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:45.31. Junior Jay Jin (Canton, Mich./Canton) finished the 100-yard backstroke in 54.09 to take first place and later won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.69.

Sophomore Brian Jay (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.13 while junior Matthew Nielsen (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:11.17.

In the 200-yard butterly, senior David Campbell (Voorhees, N.J./Regional) finished first in a season-best time of 1:56.09 as Nielsen and freshman Edward Healy (Lincroft, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) were second and third in 1:57.93 and 2:00.16.

Mehta won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.64 while Steinhouse won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.34. Mehta was later first in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 51.22.

Freshman Noah Fatsi (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) finished fourth on the three-meter diving board with 136.72 points while junior Yannos Michailidis (Athens, Greece/Hellenic American) was fourth on the one-meter diving board with 142.65 points.
