Drew Hamilton Wins UAA Championship, Breaks Own CWRU Record in the 500 Freestyle

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University freshman Drew Hamilton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) won a University Athletic Association Championship and broke his own school record in the 500-yard freestyle on day two of the 2015 UAA Championship at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center.

The Spartans rank seventh of eight teams competing with 212 points. Host and No. 3 nationally ranked Emory University is the team leader with 477.5, while No. 10 University of Chicago (458) and No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis (455) rank second and third, respectively.

Hamilton swam a 4:32.90 during morning prelims then blew past that time with a finals mark of 4:28.98. The team's first UAA Champion since Alex Hostoffer in 2009, Hamilton previously set the school record in the event back in early December with a mark of 4:34.73.

His time from tonight automatically earns a spot at next month's NCAA Championship Meet in Shenandoah, Texas.

Also reaching the podium for CWRU was the sixth-place 400 medley relay team and the seventh-place 200 freestyle relay.

In the 400 medley event, senior Andrew Bollinger (Boulder, Colo./Fairview), sophomore Daniel Primachenko (Studio City, Calif./The Buckley School), junior Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) and senior Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) finished in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 3:23.72.

In the 200 free relay, Haufler, Tam, senior Elliott Kerbel (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) and senior Caleb Allen (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) touched the wall in 1:24.04.
