From NYU Athletics

Two New York University divers competed in the NCAA Division III Regional Diving Championships this Friday and Saturday, February 27-28, at Springfield College in Springfield, MA.

There were 30 male divers competing for seven national-qualifying spots at this weekend's meet. Twenty-four divers from across the nation will be invited to compete at the NCAA Championships.

On Saturday, senior Austen Blease won the 11-dive one-meter competition with a score of 533.30 points. Blease had already qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships on Friday when he finished fourth in the 11-dive three-meter competition (571.90).

"A near flawless performance by Austen to win the event," said NYU Diving Coach Scott Donie. "We already know that he is one of the best divers in the country, and he proved it again today."

Senior Brian Blum placed 18th in the one-meter competition (379.55) on Saturday and 16th in the three-meter competition (446.65) on Friday.

"I'm going to give the team a couple of days off and then we'll get to work preparing for the NCAA Championships," Donie added. "It was a really successful weekend for NYU diving."

Blease and a large contingent of Violet swimmiers will next compete at the NCAA National Championships, which are being held Wednesday-Saturday, March 18-21, at the Conroe Independent School District (CISD) Natatorium in Shenandoah, TX.
