NYU Captures ECAC Championships

New York University's men's swimming & diving team finished first (1,860.50 points) of 13 competitors in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships, which were held Friday-Sunday, December 5-7, at the Nassau Aquatics Center in East Meadow, NY.

Senior co-captain Jerry Crowley set an ECAC record in the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 20.25, 0.06 seconds off of the current NYU program record which was set in 2008-09. Crowley also participated on the ECAC record-breaking 400-yard medley relay (3:20.66) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:01.61),teams. The 400-yard medley relay team also consisted of freshmen Tim KouAdam Betts and Chad Moody, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team was made up of Crowley, Moody, sophomore Max Phillips, and junior Win Htet Oo.

"We had a tremendously successful weekend and I am very happy with our results," said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. "The team has worked in the pool and in the weight room from day one and it's great to see their efforts pay off."

Miele was named Coach of the Meet for men and women after the Violets' stand-out performances.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Austin Palmer won his third event of the meet, the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.30).

- Kou, who participated on the record-breaking 400 medley relay team, finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (1:53.84).
